Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Deerfield Golf Club is an 18 hole municipal golf course located in
Deerfield, IL.  The course is an Edward Packard design built in 1960 and purchased by the Deerfield Park District in 1971.

Experience Requirements:

Seeking an individual with an experienced background in golf course maintenance combined with strong organizational skills and an eye for detail.  The Assistant Superintendent will report directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and will be responsible for performing various tasks in a detailed manner including but not limited to effective crew management, daily grounds inspection and course set-up, plant protection application, irrigation troubleshooting and repairs, operation of all maintenance equipment essential for maintaining the golf course and irrigation system, assisting in overseeing capital and renovation projects, various horticulture duties and golf course improvement projects.  Special skills include an ability to be hands on and a strong work ethic, ambitious, motivated and team-oriented.  Looking for an honest individual with a positive, enthusiastic attitude and a willingness to learn.  Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and public.  Spanish speaking skills are a plus.

Education Requirements:  Two to four-year degree in Turfgrass Management or related field.  Must have or be able to obtain an Illinois Pesticide Operators License within first six months of employment.  

Compensation and Benefits:  $40,000 - $45,000 commensurate with experience, Paid Annual Vacation and Sick Leave, IMRF Pension, Insurance Plans – Medical/Dental/Vision, Association Dues, Uniform Allowance.

This associate will manage and direct the turf management services we offer to our clients. This associate will be responsible for the following:

  • Coordinate the turf management program of the company, including scheduling, training, and providing client satisfaction through quality turf management.
  • Train and direct the turf specialists and other designated application individuals on the proper methods and techniques of herbicide, pesticide, and fertilizer applications,

  • At least 3-5 years industry experience required, preferably in a turf management role.
  • Knowledge of equipment, materials, and chemicals used in a turf management program.
  • Knowledge of equipment, processes, and deliverables involved in snow plow operations.
  • Knowledge of chemical application, storage procedures, and safety procedures for handling chemicals properly.
  • Valid Illinois “Ornamental and Turf Pest Control” operator or application license.
