PCNB: New Information About an Old Fungicide Dr. Charles Silcox – Amvac Environmental Products
PCNB was first registered for use as a fungicide on turfgrass in 1964. An active ingredient must possess a unique combination of characteristics to remain viable in the marketplace for over 50 years. Although it is labeled for the control of several important turfgrass diseases, PCNB has been used almost exclusively by golf course superintendents in the northern U.S. for the control of pink and gray snow molds in the late fall because of its excellent efficacy in preventing development of these diseases.
Dr. Silcox will discuss the chemistry of PCNB, its mode of action, and review recent university research results involving PNCB, including the discovery that PCNB is also highly effective against foliar and basal rot anthracnose. Best management practices for anthracnose and how to utilize PCNB as part of a fungicide resistance management program will also be discussed.
