    Second Assistant Superintendent
Exmoor Country Club, Highland Park IL

    Position Description:

Unique opportunity to join a young and energetic staff at a prestigious club on the North Shore of Chicago. All previous Assistants vacated, opening up the chance for turfgrass professionals to gain hands-on experience in all aspects of golf course management. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and look to expand their knowledge of plant protectant and fertilizer application, hand watering, irrigation troubleshooting, tournament preparation and leading small crews to complete special projects. This is an exciting opportunity for someone beginning their career to advance rapidly through hard work and personal achievements.

    Course Description:

Founded in 1896 as Illinois’ third golf club, Exmoor is a private, full-service country club, located in Highland Park, Illinois, 28 miles north of Chicago. With a championship golf course designed by Donald J. Ross, Exmoor continues to fulfill its original mission -- as a family club devoted to the game of golf, while offering a growing range of sports and social opportunities.  Members of all ages enjoy a year-round schedule of exciting social activities.

The Exmoor course presents golfers with a classical golf experience, one that exemplifies the Golden Age of golf architecture — 1910-1937 — a period when many of America’s most influential courses were built. The layout features design antecedents to the great courses of Scotland: imaginative grass-faced bunkers, challenging green complexes and 18 holes shaped in natural ways by the land on which they were built.

Donald J. Ross, considered the “Dean” of American golf course architects, designed the Exmoor golf course in 1915. Golf architect Ron Prichard completed a course restoration in 2003, and working recently with Mr. Prichard, Exmoor resurfaced its greens with Pure Distinction bent grass, redefined green pads and added new grass approaches to all greens.

Our course has been honored as the site of 18 national championships organized by the United States Golf Association, the Western Golf Association, the Women’s Western Golf Association, and PGA TOUR Champions. Most recently, the world’s top senior players competed in one of the PGA TOUR Champions’ five major tournaments, the 2018 Constellation Senior Players Championship. World Golf Hall of Famer Vijay Singh bested a field that included major champions Hale Irwin, Larry Mize, Bernhard Langer, and Tom Lehman.
