The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at Mistwood Golf Club is a full-time, skilled labor position that will demand full-time hours throughout the year. This position will report directly to the Head Superintendent.  Because the maintenance staff is accountable for all golf course and facility set-up and maintenance, the Assistant Superintendent will have a variety of responsibilities on a day-to-day basis.  Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Contributing to the establishment, promotion and protection of the Mistwood brand.

Job Description
University of Illinois Golf Course is a 36 hole Daily-Fee facility located in Savoy Illinois. This position assists in all facets of golf course maintenance while working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and other golf maintenance employees on a daily basis. The overall goal of this position is to give the employee hands on experience in order to prepare them to become a golf course superintendent in the future. This is a management position. The candidate must display leadership and be able to learn technical skills from hands on experience on the course. Duties will include daily planning and assigning work to employees, chemical and fertilizer applications (license included), irrigation repairs, training and discipline of employees as well as scouting and record keeping. Candidates must be available and willing to work 50-60 hours per week during the growing season (April-October). Experience with irrigation troubleshooting and repair is a plus.

  • Participate in the maintenance of the golf course greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunkers and cart paths.

    Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

    History:  For more than a hundred years, Westmoreland Country Club has been among the most exclusive clubs on the “famed” North Shore of Chicago.  Originally designed by William Watson in 1911, Westmoreland has undergone a number of renovations over the years including work by A.W. Tillinghast, William Langford, and Arthur Hills. Since 2004, Westmoreland has made numerous improvements which include a new irrigation system, new USGA greens with precision-aire systems, and a wall-to-wall drainage system.  In recent years, Westmoreland has worked closely with Shawn Smith of Hills•Forrest•Smith to restore the golf course to a character that is consistent with early 1900’s golf course architecture.  This work included a complete bunker renovation using “Better Billy Bunker”, fairway expansions, squaring up tees, tree removals and the addition of fescue areas.   A Long Range Master Plan has been developed by Shawn which includes greens expansions/regrassing, tree management/buffer enhancement, and fescue area additions.     Biltmore Forest Country Club

    Course Description
    Biltmore Forest Country Club was founded in 1922 and is a Top 100 Platinum Club.  The Donald Ross golf course has as championship history including the Western Amateur, Land of Sky Open, 1999 US Women’s Amateur, and the 2013 US Women’s Mid-Amateur.  The membership consists of local/regional and National members.  In 2015 the club completed a golf course restoration which included Better Billy Bunkers, A1 USGA greens, Zeon Zoysia tees and fairways and a new Toro irrigation system with Lynx.  Currently, the club is building a new, state of the art maintenance building and also undergoing a creek bank restoration project.  The Club is open year round and recorded 16,000 rounds in 2018.

    Opened in May 2010, Chicago Highlands Club is the first private family-oriented country club built in the Chicago area in over 80 years.
