      Golf Course Maintenance Specialist: The Preserve at Oak Meadows

      Job Purpose

      This position performs manual labor in a variety of maintenance/construction tasks at the District golf courses and assists in the training and leading of seasonal employees. 

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

      • Assist in maintenance and repair of irrigation and drainage systems
      • Perform a variety of maintenance tasks, including mowing turf and pruning of shrubs, trees, and other tasks to maintain golf playing surfaces
      • Assist in training and leading seasonal employees
      • Perform routine maintenance on a wide variety of tools, machinery and equipment
      • Assist in repair and maintenance of golf cart paths and property fences
      • Assist in construction of new golf course features. Prepare and grade soil areas for turf grass seed planting
      • Apply plant protectant and fertilizers
      • Transport equipment to variety of district locations
      • Perform snow removal and landscaping around golf clubhouse
      • Perform other duties as required

      Education and Experience Required 

      Education:  Coursework in Horticulture, Agronomy, or Turf Management 

      Related Experience:  Two (2) years’ experience in golf course maintenance or similar position; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Pesticide operator’s license preferred.   

      Knowledge Of:  Methods, practices, materials, and equipment used in the care and maintenance of golf course tees, greens, fairways, and roughs; chemical applications used to cultivate turf greens, plants, shrubs, and tees; variety of horticulture practices; occupational hazards and proper safety precautions; game of golf. 

      Skills In:  Preparing, establishing, and maintaining turf, tees, shrubbery, and ornamental beds; operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment used in golf course maintenance; installation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.

      Hickory Hills Country Club is located on the southern edge of Chicago. The 120 acre property is comprised of a 18 hole golf course, designed by tour professional James Foulis. In addition, there is an executive 9-hole course designed by legendary Architect, William B. Langford. The property has many unique characteristics. Spectacular rolling hills and moraines are evident throughout the property. These land formations were created by the accumulation of glacial debris.

      APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

      Must possess or be able to obtain State of Illinois Department of Agriculture Pesticide License. Applicant needs to have great work ethic, and a positive attitude. 

      PRIMARY DUTIES

      • ·       The Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent.
      • ·       Participates in chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the grounds, in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
      • ·       Assists Superintendent in planning and executing daily activity. Some these responsibilities include the following: Daily course work, crew management, safety training, drainage installation and repairs, irrigation repairs, tree pruning, and snow removal.
      • ·       Individual may serve in the Superintendent’s capacity during his/her absence.
      • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • ·      Prior golf course maintenance experience is required
      • ·      Valid Driver’s License
      • ·      Bi-Lingual English/Spanish desirable, but not required
      • ·      Self motivated, and goal oriented
      • COMPENSATION/BENEFITS

      • ·      Salary $45,000-$48,000/year, DOE
      • ·      Medical insurance available after 90 days

      Job Description 

      We are looking for a mechanic to maintain and repair small engine equipment. You will be responsible for ensuring functionality and reliability of machines, engines and mechanical systems. They must be able to work with various machines and tools as well as follow all safety precautions.

      Responsibilities

      • ·         Inspect machines, engines, etc. and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues
      • ·         Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability
      • ·         Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner
      • ·         Perform thorough maintenance on equipment
      • ·         Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components
      • ·         Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery
      • ·         Keep logs of work and report on issues
      • ·         Sharpen and adjust reels 

      Skills

      • ·         Proven experience as Mechanic
      • ·         Excellent knowledge of machinery and hydraulic, electrical and other systems and their components
      • ·         Aptitude in using various hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers etc.) and precision measurement tools (e.g. calipers)
      • ·         Very good communication skills
      • ·         A problem-solving ability
